Congress has finally passed and the president has signed Êlegislation in October 2010 that could possibly allow the Fresnel lens to be placed back in the New Presque Isle Light. However, the US Coast Guard must first conduct a study to determine the overall best plan. Already the US Coast Guard and two consultants have visited Presque Isle and examined the lighthouse and the lens. The Township Parks and Recreation Comittee is considering various alternatives. The Coast Guard report must be issued within one year, or by the fall of 2011. No information is currently available about what the report from the Coast Guard will recommend.
